The president of the FIFEL - A life dedicated to energy issues !

Honorary Professor - Mr Daniel Favrat - President  of the FIFEL /

"The development of energy services has been the key to enable the development of our modern societies. Initiated from an essentially solar era at the period of Mesopotamia and Egypt it has continued over the past centuries in an era predominantly exploiting fossil resources stored over millions of years. This long epic has not been exempt from accidents and impacts on our environment but time has come for the transition, initiating the emergence of a new era essentially based on renewable energies and a more rational use of energy.

This transition is everyone's business and the media are at the heart of a good understanding of the issues. In 30 years of activity the FIFEL/ International Energy Film Festival - Lausanne helped highlight most of them by rewarding some of the best films on energy. The most striking of a retrospective on this period is to note that all the topics covered, whether on an unsustainable exploitation of resources or the attention to raise on the grey energy, challenges remain of current concerns.

After 30 years, the FIFEL must also begin its transition to new media as well as to the opening to the creation of new works of young film directors. A crossed perspective from the past towards the future is the new vintage. "

"Force in action, which allows to act :  without it, nothing happens, no movement, no light, no life! In a physical sense, energy characterizes the capacity to modify a state, to produce a work bringing about movement, light, or heat. "

The FIFEL was born in 1986 from the will of energy professionals, eager to convey, to a wide public, essential information for the understanding of energy issues. The cinema media was selected, opening the door as such to multiple interpretations!

Each of the leading figures involved successively in the direction of the festival, brought its valuable contribution and enriched the content. This accumulation of human energy and different visions, has allowed to explore the theme of energy with a rare variety. To put energy on stage through the 7th art, is  not easy... However, the vision of film directors worldwide offer the public, an intimate view - sometimes rational but much often emotional – of energy and its  economic and social issues. To celebrate its anniversary, FIFEL offers a nice getaway in 2017 and will go to meet the public by inviting him to the discovery of its archives at diverse national and international events !
Taking the reins of such a unique festival as FIFEL is a commitment that goes far beyond a professional commitment. It is the wonderful chance to confirm, share, support and if possible raise awareness that we are all - globally, regardless of culture, language or religion – in front of a reality of facts and responsibilities to future generations . It was necessary for such a challenge to bring forth the vision of artists, creators, writers, film directors providing one’s view of the world and seeking to interact with the public and seduce him.

The "Energy Angels" will share wonderful energies around the world and we thank them in advance !

Application

Until now the FIFEL foundation accomplished its mission through the organization of a festival, which was taking place in Lausanne every two years.  The previous FIFEL editions built the foundations the festival needs for a future expansion in accordance with the importance of current energy and environmental issues.   FIFEL Foundation acknowledges the fact that future generations must be inspired to meet the energy challenges of tomorrow. FIFEL promotes genuine citizen awareness and supports education by organizing events specifically aimed at primary and middle school students.   The very first festival edition was created in 1986. Since 1991, the foundation has been connecting the different stakeholders involved in this enterprise.
